New mega update and the mega moment event!

To celebrate the new Mega Evolution update going live globally, Niantic have announced a new Special Research story, event, and a Mega Raid available!

Brand new Special Research


New Special Research will be available to those Trainers level 5 and up! Allowing you to pick between Venasuar, Charizard or Blastoise and try out Mega Evolutions for yourself!

A Mega Moment Event

The Mega Moment Event will take place from Friday 29th April 2022 at 10am local time to Sunday 1st May 8pm local time with Mega Kangaskhan entering the fray! For the first time, Mega Kangaskhan will be appearing in Mega Raids.

Not only this, but on Sunday 1st May between 11am and 2pm local time:

  • Mega Kangaskhan will be appearing more frequently in Mega Raids

  • You can receive up to five free raid passes by spinning Gym Photo Discs during the event and up to two hours afterwards. So, make the most out of those Raids!

  • Not only that, but you’ll also have an increased chance of encountering a shiny Kangaskhan!


Other bonuses during the event include Mega-Evolved Pokémon receiving a CP boost.

Wild Encounters

Pokémon with evolutions that can be Mega Evolved in Pokémon go will also be appearing more frequently in the wild! Such as:

  • Bulbasaur

  • Charmander

  • Squirtle

  • Slowpoke

  • Gastly

  • Mareep

  • Buneary

  • Snover


And if you’re lucky, you may encounter a shiny one!


Field Research Rewards

Event-themed field research will also be made available. Complete the tasks to receive a random reward of mega energy for any Pokémon capable of mega evolution within Pokémon GO.

Note: Kangaskhan mega energy will only be available by completing mega raids against Kangaskhan
